Originally, this character was conceived as an original character from the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin.

Malak is from Darr, in the High North. Darre society is matriarchal, dominated by female warriors; men are not allowed to have a voice in government, inherit, or own property. His timeline takes place three hundred years after Kingdom of the Gods, the third book in the Inheritance trilogy, but before the novella The Awakened Kingdom.
